Why join the Oak Bay Cruising Club?
If you have ever wondered what it would be like to cruise further than the well trodden routes around the Gulf Islands, or the sometimes overcrowded "popular" areas like Desolation Sound, this is the way to do it. The BC coastline between Campbell River and Prince Rupert, and the West Coast of Vancouver Island, can be regarded as one of the last unspoilt cruising areas left in the Western World. And it is, comparatively speaking, right on our doorstep! The Oak Bay Cruising Club is an association of like minded sailors and power boaters with a will to explore our beautiful coastline, and to share their experiences for the benefit of others.
The cruising club is quite new, just getting started in 2006, founded originally by graduates from the Oak Bay Sailing School course program. Cruising on trips organized by commercial organizations can be expensive, cost ranging from $200 per day upwards. Typically, a 2 or 3 week cruise will cost crew between $3000 and $4000. Oak Bay Cruising Club members pay a one time fee to join for three years, and enjoy a membership benefits package including free, repeatable, training up to Coastal Skipper, use of school boats for practice, and places on club cruises just for a share of food and fuel costs, no charter fees are charged to club members. The membership prospectus is laid out in the "how to become a member" section.
